6th Annual Island Grill Team Bodacious took home a Pasta Pantaleo print, and a check for $5,000.00 on Saturday June 19th in the 6th Annual Island Grill Charity Dolphin Tournament, sponsored by Mercedes-Benz of Cutler Bay and Tavernier Creek Marina. The tournament raises money for the Baptist Children’s Hospital Cancer Center. With Henry Danzig from Tavernier, FL at the helm, friends Tim Hampson of Tavernier and Mark Wheaton from Key Largo, FL teamed up with Mike Thaler from Palmetto, FL. Mike, a representative from Bacardi who was a major sponsor of the event, was quoted as saying “I’ve just had the best fun fishing ever” The teams combined weight of their three biggest Dolphin totaled 54.8 pounds. Second place went to team Yank’em with Sue Rielhman and Peter Villiere both from Tavernier, FL, John Lewis from Pompano, Fl and Dave Brasher of Weston, FL. The team weighed a total of 46.4 pounds sending them home with a $1,000.00 check. Islamorada charter boat Captain, Greg Eklund would place his team in third, fishing aboard the Cloud Nine. Anglers Kim and Jim Grose of Acworth, GA. fishing with friends Cheryl Coyne also from Acworth, GA and Woody Long from Kennesaw, GA weighed in a total of 39.0 pounds of Dolphin. Jim would weigh the biggest fish of the tournament, a 26.2 pounder. Tammi Amberg from Naples, FL fishing aboard the TNT weighed the largest fish caught by a female angler at 25.8 pounds. Junior Angler Chase Bertucci from Naples, FL weighed a 10.6 pound fish caught aboard the Game Hunter for the largest fish caught by a Junior Angler. Payton Zeschke landed an 8.6 pound Dolphin putting her in second place junior while fishing on the Sweet & Law. The largest Wahoo was caught by Troy Rodkey from Naples, FL weighing in at 13.8 pounds. The Island Grill Charity Dolphin Tournament hosted 115 anglers on 38 boats during the 6th Annual event. With an increase in anglers, boats and sponsorship dollars, Jack McCormick and the Island Grill will soon be awarding a very nice check to the Baptist Children’s Hospital Cancer Center. The tournament would like to thank all the sponsors, businesses, and people who donated time and money to make this year’s event the best ever! 5th Annual Island Grill Fathers Day Team Nuff Said takes home a Pasta Panteleo print, Island Grill gift certificate and a check for $5,000.00 with a total weight of 56.8 pounds in the 5th Annual Island Grill Fathers Day Charity Dolphin Tournament. Nuff Said’s angler Bobby Everett from Inverness, Florida weighed in all three qualifing fish a 19.4 pound, 18.8 pound and 18.6 pound Dolphin to take the team to the top. Anglers Rick LeMare and Russell Eaves from Key Largo, FL with the help of their captain Scott Stoky would end the day as Grand Champions. Second place went to Gotta Luv It with anglers John Cullen and Tyrone Bradley both from Tavernier, FL. Tyrone weighed in the largest fish of the tournament at 36.0 pounds. The teams other two fish weighed in at 11.0 and 6.2 for a total of 53.2 sending them home with $1,000.00 check. Moon Shadow would be the last team in line to weigh in but it was worth it. Anglers Terry Shell of Redington Shores, FL fishing with long time friends Curt Backus of Port Sanilac, MI, Steve Cere and Bret Backus both from Naples, FL would take third place honors. The Moon Shadow weighed in 21.4, 17.8 and 13.2 for a total of 52.4 pounds. 20.8 pounds would be the majic number for both largest fish weighed by a junior and lady angler. Javaune Powell from Fayetteville, GA would take the top junior angler award fishing aboard the Gone Fishin V. Sheila Haddock fishing on the Miller Time landed the largest Dolphin in the ladies division. The largest Wahoo weighed in the tournament was a 13.6 pounder caught by George Lobe aboard the No Slack. The most unusual catch went to junior angler Hunter Haddock from Houston TX with a 9.6 pound Barracuda caught on the Miller Time. The Island Grill Charity Dolphin Tournament hosted 100 anglers on 29 boats during the 5th annual event June 19th and 20th, and Fun Day on Sunday the 21st. The tournament would like to thank Tavernier Creek Marina for their major sponsorship. The tournament raises money for the Baptist Children’s Hospital Cancer Center. Other major sponsors include BB&T Bank, Riva South, Bacardi and David Lee Roofing. We would also like to thank our other sponsors and the entire community who donated time, money or prizes for the 5th annual event.
