In December of 2009, my son and daughter-in-law were married in Islamorada. Since his wife's parents owned a home in Tavernier, this seemed like a perfect place for a small destination wedding. However, residing in Michigan made planning for a rehearsal dinner party a bit complicated. My family has always been a fan of the Island Grill so we contacted them.

My wife worked closely with Jack and Rebecca deciding on a menu consisting of a crab, clam and lobster bake along with BBQ chicken and assorted hors d'oeuvres as well as several accompaniments including dessert. Everything was in place until the day of the event. Torrential rains and thunderstorms hit Islamorada including a tornado warning. It appeared that our outdoor dinner would be washed away. It rained cats and dogs right up to the hour we were to hold the event. Much to our amazement, the Island Grill staff had been working all day "storm proofing" our event. Although we had to dodge a few puddles in the parking lot, everything else was high and dry.

That's not the best part, however. Let me tell you about the food. It was fantastic. I have dined at some of the finest 5 star restaurants around the world and I will stack this dining experience with those at the top of my list. The lobster, crab and clam bake was phenomenal. The BBQ chicken was the best I ever tasted. The hors d'oeuvres were top shelf, out of this world. We could have made a meal on them alone. Although we didn't leave much room for dessert, the key lime pie was to die for. The adult beverages had been on ice all day and the kids were treated with special meals of their own. Everyone in attendance continues to rave about this food.

The Island Grill staff was pleasant and more than accommodating. The entertainment arranged for by Jack was perfect. What looked earlier in the day to be a total washout turned into a great outing.

I really cannot say enough good things about the Island Grill. If you are looking for a place in the Florida Keys to hold a special event, a gathering or simply a great lunch, look no further. I give the Island Grill my utmost recommendation. The wedding the following day was great. Better yet, I will be a grandfather in another 7 months.

"Excellent Catering Experience"

We hired Island Grill as our caterer to prepare and serve food at our wedding reception in December of 2009. We were having a destination wedding and it was somewhat last minute, so we were stressing out about trying to find someone to cater the reception for approximately 100 people. The two caterers recommended by the resort ended up not working out. One wanted 100% payment ten days prior to the event, which my now husband and I did not feel comfortable with. The other was too slow to return phone calls and I finally gave up on them. All this background to say that when I called Island Grill, I was feeling the pressure to hire someone and I literally picked them out of the yellow pages. And I'm really lucky I did!

Rebecca is the event planner for Island Grill and returned our phone calls immediately. She gave me her cell phone number and email address and we were in constant contact — very important, especially for a last minute event. She even called us on her day off.

In our first conversation, I explained to her our situation and with just very basic guidelines (surf n' turf, etc), she quickly sent us a proposal with a menu that she and the chef picked out together. She met with us the first time the day before the event. Honestly, our expectations were low for the food. We figured it would be edible but because it was such a large amount and in an off site location, we weren't expecting perfection. Well... it blew us away. My husband had seconds, as did several of our guests.

Overall it was a great experience and we highly recommend the team at Island Grill!
